Anti Surf Podium Steps hire

It may have appeared to be a great way of saving a few seconds but podium ‘surfing’ has definitely had its day. Whether you think surfing on your podium steps saves time or just good fun, riding your podium steps can in fact be a highly dangerous occupation.

That’s why Lakeside-Hire is now able to modify all their podium steps if the customer requires it to help make podium surfing a thing of the past. Lakeside-Hire is offering the modification in line with new HSE regulations where two of the wheels on the podium can be replaced with base plates allowing versatility and flexibility but only when the podium steps are not in use.

Surfing is the term given to a practise where the worker manoeuvres the equipment without dismounting first. Many believe that surfing the equipment from job to job saves a few precious seconds but safety experts have raised concerns that contractors could pay a high price if they are injured in the process.

For some time safety officers in the construction industry have been aware that surfing of podium steps, scissor lifts and indoor scaffold towers has become a popular pastime on site.

They noticed that more and more contractors were compromising safety standards by leaving all four caster wheels in the ‘unlocked’ position and pulling themselves along while still on board the podium steps.

And in line with that discussion, experts at Lakeside-Hire can now fit the base plates or sturdy rubber feet to two of the podium’s caster wheels which means that the podium steps are completely safe and structurally sound while retaining manoeuvrability when needed.

The aim is to get the best out of your contractors by adhering to the new regulations and providing ultimate security and safety while working on site without compromising efficiency.
